L’AQUILA – The city council has approved the proposal of the ArteImmagine Association to remember the painter Fulvio Muzi in view of the fortieth anniversary of the mural created in the City Council Hall. The initiative includes, in addition to the creation of an exhibition – to be held from 15 to 30 July – of the preparatory studies and sketches, the publication of the catalogue.

The initiative is aimed at enhancing the Mural “as a cultural heritage of the entire citizenry, through the public display of the preparatory studies and sketches that testify to the creative path of the work, as well as the photos and documents relating to its creation preserved at the painter’s archive.

Muzi, among the most important exponents of Italian neorealism, was among the main animators of the city’s culture of which he was also a municipal councilor.

The mural of Palazzo Margherita was commissioned by the Municipality to Muzi in 1984, on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the city’s liberation.

On 13 June 1944 the partisans entered the city led by Major Aldo Rasero. The President of the Republic Oscar Luigi Scalfaro also participated in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of 13 June 1944. Below is a note from Mayor Tullio De Rubeis, preserved by the State Archives, which recalls those events.
