Requests from opposition parliamentarians for Giorgia Meloni to distance herself from some fringes of the Fratelli d’Italia youth movement are multiplying. In an investigation by Fanpage boys and girls can be heard and seen praising the Duce, singing fascist chants, making Roman salutes, shouting “Sieg Heil!” and identify themselves as legionaries, black shirts, comrades. The issue reached Brussels, where Ursula von der Leyen’s spokesperson, urged by reporters, expressed condemnation of the young Melonians. Even on TV and in newspapers the topic continues to be present. Today, on the program The Air that blows on A7, the director of Fanpage, Francesco Cancellato, was present. Opposing him in the comparison is Forza Italia senator Maurizio Gasparri. Who said he did not “trust” the online newspaper’s report, because the editing of the videos recorded with the hidden camera could have been “manipulated”. He raised doubts about credibility and claimed that he too was able «with his cell phone» to alter reality through editing. Then, Gasparri throws the pearl: «Those who shout “Duce” could be Casertana fans».

An unfortunate association not only because it calls into question journalistic work, but also because Caserta fans are probably the group furthest from neo-fascist fascinations. On Wikipedia, we read: «From a political point of view, Caserta supporters have positions traditionally close to those of the left; in fact they have often expressed themselves on the subject of anti-racism, supporting initiatives aimed at this and hosting the RFC Ska Lions, the city’s amateur football team which is interested in the fight against discrimination; they were also part, together with the fans of Ternana, Ancona, Cosenza, Savona and Livorno, of the ultras resistance front, a union aimed at fighting right-wing ideology in the Italian curves. Finally, the people of Caserta have expressed critical positions regarding the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq in the 2000s, just as they have undertaken environmentalist battles, as was done on the occasion of the failure to close the Lo Uttaro landfill”.
