De Luca: “Campania does not allow itself to be blackmailed regarding cohesion funds”

“Let’s get one thing in mind: Campania will not accept blackmail. Never”. With these words, the president of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, reiterated his position regarding the controversial issue of cohesion funds during the delivery ceremony of one hundred new buses for Air Campania, held in the hall of the Avellino bus station.

Present at the ceremony were the sole director Antony Acconcia, the president of the regional transport commission, Luca Cascone, and the general director of the ACI, Gerardo Capozza. During his speech, De Luca addressed harsh criticism to minister Raffaele Fitto: “They think they can blackmail us: either do what we say or we’ll block everything. He is the only one in the world who does not know that the blocking of the six billion from the Cohesion Fund, which is money from the Campania Region and not from the government, implies an increase in the costs of the works by a third”.

The President of the Region drew attention to the sentences of the TAR and the Council of State, which oblige the government to sign the agreement by June 28th. “I’m not optimistic – underlined De Luca – they don’t care about laws and rules. However, we know that we will not bow to their arrogance.”

During his speech, De Luca also spoke about the transformations in public transport in Campania: “Until seven-eight years ago our trains were cattle wagons and rickety buses: we have accomplished a revolution, as well as that of policies and substantial funding destined for internal areas for infrastructure (Lioni-Grottaminarda – ed.) and healthcare”.

He also announced the imminent inauguration of the new ‘Landolfi’ hospital in Solofra, after the upgrading of the ‘Frangipane-Bellizzi’ hospital in Ariano Irpino. “We are the government of the entire region, not just the coastal strip and the metropolitan area of Naples”concluded De Luca, underlining his administration’s commitment to the benefit of all areas of Campania.
