AVERSA/ORTA DI ATELLA. On 16 June 2024, the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of the Aversa Group and the Marcianise Company executed a decree of arrest of a crime suspect, issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Naples North, against a subject, seriously suspected of being the author of the double murder of the brothers MM and MC, which occurred on the afternoon of June 15th in Orta di Atella (CE).
The Carabinieri of the Marcianise Company, engaged in an ordinary territorial control service, while passing through Via Astragata in the municipality of Orta di Atella, near the “Succivo” junction of the “Nola-Villa Literno” road axis, noticed two stopped cars. , whose occupants were arguing among themselves, apparently over an argument related to traffic issues.
Therefore, the patrol service chief got out of the service car and approached the aforementioned in an attempt to verify what was happening and quell the dispute. At this juncture, one of the subjects suddenly got out of his car and approached the passenger side of the other car and, after having grabbed and pulled the passenger of the same car, took a gun from his belt and fired numerous shots at him, hitting him in the head.
Immediately afterwards, the aforementioned man fired numerous other blows at the driver of the other car, who had gotten out of the car and tried to escape on foot, hitting him in the back.
Afterwards, he pointed the weapon at the patrol service chief, who was approaching the two cars to intervene, who fired two shots, without targeting the perpetrator of the crime.
At that point, the aforementioned man managed to get into his car and escape at high speed.
The Carabinieri who intervened immediately began chasing the aforementioned man, which lasted for several kilometres, during which the fugitive threw pieces of glass from the window of his car, damaging the Carabinieri vehicle.
The subject, however, managed to lose his traces in the countryside surrounding the town of Cancello and Arnone.
The intense and uninterrupted searches conducted under the direction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of North Naples made it possible to trace the man to a health facility in the area. Serious indications of guilt were therefore acquired on his behalf, taking into account the unequivocal recognition by the operative agents and the apparent danger of escape, which therefore allowed the issuing of a decree arresting the suspect of the crime.
The car used for the escape was later found abandoned in a rural area. The subject, before being arrested, was questioned in the Prosecutor’s Office and denied the charge.
Furthermore, a house search was carried out at the home of the alleged perpetrator, which allowed the discovery of weapons and ammunition, including a modified sawn-off shotgun with abraded serial number and an illegally held semi-automatic pistol (not registered in the database, nor subject of the complaint), as well as a large quantity of material for the packaging of cartridges and gunpowder (over 100 kilograms of cartridge cases).
The subject had already previously been the recipient of administrative measures prohibiting possession of weapons and revocation of weapons licence, so that the weapons held were to be considered clandestine, given the absence of identifying elements, as well as the modification of the offensive potential of the weapon and taking into account that it had an abraded serial number.
The investigations continue with the execution of the necessary technical checks which are still underway.
The identification of the cause is not yet clear.
The subject was accompanied to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, available to the Judicial Authority
