Following numerous reports and having learned the news also from the press that we are about to activate, at the moment only for the summer period, the “Villa San Giovanni-Cannitello” railway stop, whose railway station appears to be completely unusable, The CODACONS of Reggio Calabria has sent an invitation and direct warning to carry out the appropriate checks and proceed with the establishment of the stop only once they are in place adequate infrastructure and equipment.
There lack of toilets and the absence of a waiting roomif you look closely, these are just some of the shortcomings found that force travellers to experience considerable inconvenience but, however, what does not appear acceptable is the total impossibility of the infrastructure as a whole to be used by people with reduced mobility or other types of disabilities.
But the heaviest criticisms concern the inaccessibility of the station to people with disabilities. The absence of ramps, lifts and adequate toilets makes it impossible for people with reduced mobility or other types of disabilities to use the station.
This aspect makes an initiative that would have been meritorious unacceptable, because it represents an offense towards unfortunate people and should create discomfort for those who worked to achieve an objective that was strategic for a seaside resort but which thus demonstrates, on the contrary , lack of attention and respect towards users.
For this reason CODACONS has invited the President of the Calabria Region, the Regional Councillor with responsibility for Transport and the company Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, also informing the Transport Supervisory Authority to proceed with the establishment of the new stop only once the rights of all users have been guaranteed.
We will wait and watch, convinced that it was a misunderstanding and that the Calabria Region will guarantee the right to mobility of all Calabrians.
