After last Wednesday’s postponement, with 18 votes in favour, 11 against and one abstention, the city council of Messina voted favorably urban plan from the sustainable mobility. The councilors who support the mayor voted favorably Federico Basile the three of Democratic party and also the two of Now Sicily. The centre-right was against it, with councilor Buonocore abstaining, having recently left the majority. Deputy Mayor Mondello was present in the room and explained the advantages of PUMS in terms of traffic and liveability.
Cacciotto’s opposition
“I reiterate, as the Council of the Third Municipality has already done, the opposition to this PUMS, above all and obviously the part that concerns the territory of the Third Municipality where the invasive operation of pedestrianizing Viale San Martino in the stretch of road between Viale Europe and Villa Dante“, is what he says Alessandro Cacciotto. “Without forgetting the creation of other rather unique cycle paths. Everyone, for better or worse, takes their own responsibilities. Theory is one thing, practice is another. The opinion of 600 people and therefore of 600 families, who live on that stretch of road, Viale Europa/Viale San Martino – Villa Dante, was not taken into consideration, but this was known from the beginning as we essentially did not have the possibility to express themselves not even in the City Commission session“, concludes Cacciotto.
