A trio of refined carvers of local music is ready to support one of the greatest talents of American jazz. Forty-six-year-old saxophonist and composer from the San Francisco Bay Area with nine records to his name and studies at Berkeley High School and the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, Dayna Stephens will be on stage Wednesday 19 June toArt Gallery Civico 103 of Aversa for the concert that will open the Italian tour.

Stephens, who has shared the stage with pianists throughout his career Brad Mehldau, Kenny Barron and Taylor Eigsti, with trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, guitarist Julian Lage, drummer Eric Harland and other masters of the genre, has established himself since his debut album “The Timeless Now” (2007) as one of the most interesting saxophonists of his generation, calling in the bands that bear his name champions such as drummer Bill Stewart, pianist Gerard Clayton and saxophonist Walter Smith III.

To compose around his tenor sax the quartet that will take the stage of the Aversa club at 10pm, three musicians of guaranteed reliability: Domenico Sanna, Dario Deidda and Francesco Ciniglio. Sanna, considered one of the most elegant Italian jazz pianists, has collaborated with musicians of international stature such as Steve Grossman, Peter BernsteinDave Liebman, Bill Stewart and Jeff Ballard and, in Italy, with Maurizio Giammarco, Stefano Di Battista and Gegè Telesforo. After having recorded over 50 albums, the Fresh Sound Records label will soon release his new work in trio with Ameen Saleem and Greg Hutchinson.

Deidda, crowned for nine consecutive years as best Italian bassist at the Jazzit Awards, he is a regular presence alongside guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel both in trio and quintet and has collaborated among others with Michel Petrucciani, Randy BreckerMark Turner, Jeff Ballard, Marcus Gilmore, Benny Golson.

The Neapolitan drummer Francesco Ciniglio collaborated instead with Wynton MarsalisSheila Jordan, Cyrille Aimée and Aaron Parks, lived in New York for several years and studied with Gregory Hutchinson since 2010. Ciniglio has two albums as a leader to his credit: “New Talent” (2016), with pianist Aaron Parks and double bassist Joe Sanders, and “The Locomotive Suite” (2021). During the concert, promoted by Civico 103 and Live Tones Napoli ETS, the quartet will perform original pieces borrowed from individual repertoires, standards and improvisations.
