Barni hardware store, another “visit” by thieves

Of Andrea Mori

LAWN – Again thieves, again at the Barni hardware store, again in via Strozzi.

Just over a week has passed since we reported on the theft suffered from the hardware store on the night between Thursday 6th and Friday 7th June. And here we are again.

The lower part of the door broken by the thieves

«Saturday morning, at 6, I received a call from a passer-by: he told me that there was some broken glass in front of the shop. When I came to look I realized that the thieves had entered again – says Gianluca Barni, owner of the shop –. Whoever broke in did so by smashing the lower part of the door, then pulling up the bandeau, entering and taking the cash box away.”

The alarm is there, explains Gianluca, and it always rings, only with thieves it doesn’t work. “I don’t understand, maybe they crawl on the ground,” he says dejectedly.

It is now clear that the area (a stretch of via Strozzi) is targeted by criminals. In fact, if 10 days ago they broke into the hardware store, very shortly after the same fate befell Gianfranco Pastacaldi, working to reopen the historic “Zero6” nightclub, a place frequented by entire generations of people from Prato which is located a few meters from the Barni. Well, inside the room there were several bottles of Cristal (Champagne ed) and music equipment, which when taken away means the loss of thousands of euros.

A local trader, regarding these two shots, hypothesizes that they could be the same thieves.

In this period, what makes the situation more favorable to criminals is the fact that the stretch of road in front is closed for works, a wedding invitation, observes Barni.

When we ask Gianluca if he intends to take further security measures to defend his business, he tells us that in the meantime the video surveillance system has been “immediately strengthened, both the one that films the inside of the shop and the one that captures the outside ”.
