“Building communities by recovering their history”

“Just a few more days to visit Francesco Malavolta’s photographic exhibition “Popoli in movement”, set up at the “Coriolano Paparazzo” space at 189 Corso Mazzini in Catanzaro. The shots will in fact remain available to the public until June 21st before being sold the move, from the 24th, to “Nega project – In search of Beauty” by Nino Bartuccio, the third and final appointment of the exhibition “The great exhibitions of human photography”, promoted by Francesco Mazza’s Cine Sud with the patronage of the Municipality.

An initiative resulting from the happy intuition of the promoters, which the Administration embraced without hesitation, who wanted to favor a cultural and civil growth path through images, spread over time, rather than limiting themselves to the single event which, however valuable, risks to wear out too quickly without leaving significant traces. A path that is not easy but which must not be given up, if it is true as it is true that since the debut exhibition, “Against war” by Pino Bertelli, the public has grown considerably, mobilizing the world of schools, associations , young people, individual citizens who in some cases have repeated the visit several times. A significant and touching moment occurred last Sunday, when a large group of guests of the Solidarity City Foundation, among whom many immigrants were able to see themselves, it is precisely the case to say, in the photos of the boats, of the rescues at sea, in the pain and in the anger that everyone had already experienced first-hand. A unique moment of awareness and empathy, which confirmed, in case it were needed, the value of an exhibition which, which began this year, will continue in the same period until 2026.

Good politics moves like this: by embracing the valid ideas that come from the community and which aim to make it make a leap in quality not only culturally but also in conscience, encouraging reflection and thought, through the continuity of the message. Because the community grows only if it is able to recognize itself as a value and this is the direction along which the municipal administration continues to move. But “The great human photography exhibitions” also has the merit of having returned an important space in the historic center to the enjoyment of citizens. A space that has seen very prestigious events in the past and is named after Coriolano Paparazzo, an ancient city hotelier who fully entered Italian history with “La dolce vita” by Fellini and Flaiano, who discovered it thanks to a quote from Gissing. Because building communities also means recovering one’s history and doing so not to long for the past but to build the future.”

This is what we read in a note on behalf of theCambiavento Political and Cultural Association.
