From next 19th to 24th June, the “Roots Tourism Week” will be held in San Giovanni in Fiore, now in its second edition after the success of the previous one, characterized by the presence of hundreds of visitors of San Giovanni in Fiore origins from abroad, especially from France.
«It is an initiative – explains the mayor Rosaria Succurro – to deseasonalize the tourist offer, promote our typical products and attract to the city, on the occasion of the feast of the patron saint, Saint John the Baptist, children and relatives of long-term emigrants, so that they memorable experience of typical dishes, places and habits of the local tradition, in a context of celebration, music, workshops for children and religious, cultural and sporting events. In particular, on the afternoon of 21 June there will be, in Largo Peppino Impastato, the Festival of traditional Calabrian costume, which has now become an event of national importance on the relationship between textile art, goldsmithing and the history of individual territories”.
«During the event, dressed tackily and joyfully awaited by the local community, the young model Delaney Rose Wells, daughter of Natalie Tennant, a woman of Sangiovannese origins, former Secretary of State of West Virginia and among the historical protagonists of the Italian Heritage Festival which takes place there.
In West Virginia there is a wonderful community of Sangiovannesi, with whom there is a splendid relationship. Furthermore – underlines Succurro – again on June 21st we will sign the Friendship Pact with the Municipalities of Torello del Sannio, Bagnoli del Trigno, Duronia, Fossalto, Frosolone, Pietracatella and Vastogirardi, which we have in common with the tragic story of the white deaths in Monongah on 6 December 1907″.
«On the evening of June 23, in the open-air theater behind the Florense Abbey, we will have Ron’s free concert and – concludes the mayor – the Roots Tourism Week will end the following day, with the procession and the traditional celebration of St. John Baptist”.
