“CDX OFFERED ME SEATS, BUT I SAID NO”

Smaldone attacks: “Double standards, if I had accepted their offers, wouldn’t it have been a problem?”

Out of a sense of responsibility, after having tried every avenue that could guarantee the representation of our lists, as had been requested of me by many voters, I nevertheless decided to accept the proposal for a programmatic agreement with Vincenzo Telesca and Francesco Giuzio.

This is not a formal comparison on the ballot paper – I remain convinced that that would have been the right choice – but it is the only possible solution to avoid another five years of Northern League government in Potenza. We’ve seen where the previous administration took us and frankly we can’t risk falling back into the abyss.

We have always said that ours is a battle of government and not of testimony. We need to deal with reality, roll up our sleeves and try for once to build a political space that is no longer hostage to old grudges and feuds from the past.

Small note. I am amazed by the reckless attacks of many centre-right exponents who accuse me of having accepted the agreement with Telesca in exchange for a seat. I just wonder if they are the same people who, up until a minute earlier, called or sent me messages to offer me all kinds of jobs in order to support Fanelli. Would they have called it a mess even in that case? I don’t think so… double standards are the rule in politics. But that seems really too much to me.

Pierlugi Smaldone declares it.
