There were around 70 very young Marcel Jacobs emulators who last Saturday in Piazza della Libertà went on the blocks of “The fastest of Cesena”, the speed race, reserved for first, second and eighth graders organized by Atletica Endas Cesena as part of the “Night of San Giovanni”.
From 5pm to 7pm the challenges on the 30 meters of the blue mini track specially placed in the square continued without stopping until the winners were announced who were Chiara Giorgini (4.62) and Felix Felix (4.24) for the sixth grade, Fatoumata Toure (4.28) and Tommy Buzzoni Corrente (3.90) for the second class and Virginia Mangani (4.19) and Nicolas Brasov (4.03) for the third class.
“The enthusiasm of the boys was contagious – commented Barbara Valdifiori, president of Endassina – they challenged each other, always trying to give their all until the last metre, making us experience a wonderful afternoon of sport. With their example they also involved those who were in the square for the Notturna and even the simple passers-by who stopped to observe the show. Seeing an athletics track in such an unusual place was exciting for everyone. I would like to thank the friends of the Endas Cesena Running Group who gave us the opportunity to be in the square with them on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of their event.”
The track, made available by the Regional Committee of Fidal Emilia Romagna, was purchased some time ago on the proposal of the former Italian hammer thrower Ester Balassini, currently responsible for youth promotional activities. Special thanks go to Baraghini Costruzioni who took care of the installation of the mini track, to Wellness Valley and to 2T Sport, technical sponsor of the Cesena association, for their support in the organisation.
An initiative which was a great success and which will certainly be proposed again in the coming years: the enthusiasm and participation shown by the children present confirm the importance of promoting sport among the new generations and of encouraging the practice of athletics .
