70 years old, in 1996 he led the “Taurinense” Brigade in the San Rocco Castagnaretta barracks

This morning, Monday 17 June, General Claudio Graziano, 70 years old, former Chief of Defense Staff and president of the Military Committee of the European Union, president of Fincantieri since 2022, was found lifeless in his home in Rome. The possibility of suicide cannot be ruled out.

Born in Turin during his military career he had also led the 2nd Alpine Regiment of the “Taurinense” Brigade in Cuneo in the San Rocco Castagnaretta barracks. The year was 1996. He then assumed the position of Chief of the Planning Office of the Army General Staff and then Military Attache at the Italian Embassy in Washington in the United States. Upon returning to Italy, he assumed command of the “Taurinense” Alpine Brigade in 2004, subsequently command of the “Kabul Multinational Brigade” in Afghanistan and once he returned, Commander of the “Taurinense” again until 2 March 2006. In 2011 he was appointed Chief of the Army General Staff and promotion to General. From 2015 to 2018 he was Chief of Defense Staff. From 2017 to 2022 he was President of the European Union Military Committee. Since 2022 he was president of the board of directors of Fincantieri SpA and President of Assonave (National Association of the shipbuilding industry). He had been a widower for just over a year.
