As part of the intensification of the prevention action ordered by the Provincial Command of Catania, aimed at combating widespread illegality, the Carabinieri of Catania are carrying out a series of targeted services in the historic center, also to stem the pervasive phenomenon of illegal parking in squares and in all those places used for parking, in order to guarantee and raise the perception of real and perceived safety among the population.
With this in mind, the Carabinieri of the Radiomobile Unit of the Provincial Command of Catania, coordinated by the Operations Centre, on their own initiative, have decided to station themselves in the main squares of the center of Catania, carefully observing motorists entering and exiting the parking stalls. stop, with the aim of intercepting any “volunteers” for the maneuvers.
Not much time passed from the start of the service until, in Piazza Europa, a crew surprised, only after a few minutes of observation, a young man, later identified as a 22-year-old from Catania, just as he was illegally practicing the profession of parking attendant in square in the municipal parking areas.
The parking attendant, already known to the police due to past legal cases, was immediately blocked by the police, also attempted to justify his “activity”, explaining that he was simply scraping together, in a good-natured way, some change by helping motorists in difficult parking maneuvers.
The Carabinieri, who obviously did not believe the excuses made by the man, immediately started the planned investigations discovering that there was, on his account, a provision issued by the Public Security Authority, banning access for a year to the areas used as a car park in Piazza Europa, the areas in the Viale Alcide De Gasperi area and near the AMT stops.
In fact, the measure had been notified to the young 22-year-old as he was a repeat offender, having been caught on other occasions while carrying out his unauthorized “profession”. This latest illicit conduct, however, earned him a complaint to the Judicial Authority for violation of art. 10 of Legislative Decree no. 14/2017 “DACUR”.
