Rome, 17 June 2024 – TheNational Consumers Union made known the top 10 of the most expensive cities in Italy, based on territorial data provided by Istat on May inflation. The ranking takes into account the regional capitals and the municipalities that register more than 150 thousand inhabitants. Also widespread is that relating to more expensive regions of our country. According to what was reported by CNNthe ranking of the most expensive cities globally for expatriate employees, based on data provided by the survey promoted by Mercer (an American consultancy company) on living costs in 2024.
The top 10 Italian cities
The ranking is opened by Parma And Rimini. The two cities compete for supremacy with an inflation rate of 1.6%, which translates into the greatest additional expenditure on an annual basis, equivalent on average to 435 euros. Silver medal for Venicewhere the 1.4% increase in prices determines an increase in annual expenses equal to 369 euros per family. Third place for Florence which with +1.4% has an additional expense equal to 366 euros per year for an average family. Just off the podium Cagliari (+1.5%, equal to 312 euros), then Padua (+1.2%, +308 euros), Trieste (+1.2%, +293 euros), in seventh place Milan ex aequo with Naples +286 euros, then Verona (+1.1%, +283 euros) e Perugia (+1.1%, +270 euros). The top ten closes Rome (+0.9%, +233 euros).
Between most virtuous Italian citiesin which families manage to save more on an annual basis, we find Aosta. In the Aosta Valley capital, deflation is equal to 0.6%, which translates into an average saving of 156 euros per family unit each year. In second place Campobasso (-0.5%, -104 euros), followed by Ancona (-0.2%, -44 euros).

Ranking of Italian regions
At the top of the ranking of the most “expensive” regions, with annual inflation at +1.3%, the Veneto which records an average burden per family equal to 324 euros every year. Followed by Tuscanywhere price growth of 1.1% implies a surge in the cost of living equal to 272 eurosthirdEmilia Romagna (+0.9% and +237 euros).
The best regions, even in deflation, Valle d’Aosta (-0.8%, equal to a saving of 208 euros) and the Molise (-0.4%, -83 euros). Abruzzo is in third position, with no change.
The Global Top 10
Among the least economically convenient cities for those who decide to expatriate, we find it in first place Hong Kong. The Asian metropolis maintains its lead in this special ranking again this year. In second place we find Singapore. The Swiss cities of Zurich, Geneva and Basel they complete the top five and are immediately followed by the capital Bern, in sixth place. Below we find New York, London, Nassau (capital of the Bahamas) e Los Angeles, tenth. Special mention goes to the English capital which has clearly moved up the ranks, gaining nine positions since last year. London has jumped to the top of the list thanks to factors such as the general cost of living and rent prices, according to the authors of the ranking.
