TRIESTE – The State Police save the life of a young 23-year-old from Trieste who wanted to commit suicide.
The officers intervened in the Contovello area because the staff of the mental health center had reported suicidal intentions on the part of one of their young patients, headed to that area: the healthcare staff, in the request for intervention, had specified that the girl had already committed suicide in the past acts of self-harm. The operators immediately reached the location in question to intercept the young woman, together with the health facility operators.
After having scoured the vast wooded area and the various paths, the officers managed to hear moans and identify, in the dense vegetation, a narrow and impervious passage that leads from the woods towards the town centre: having followed the path for about thirty metres, they noticed some fabric anchored to a tree and a dangling shape. She was the young girl they were looking for. The promptness of the operators in helping the girl, first lifting her and then freeing her neck from her noose, meant that she started breathing again even though she was already unconscious with her face and lips bruised.
To facilitate rescue operations, the girl was transported to the lake where she was taken care of by the 118 health personnel, who were promptly notified and arrived on site. The 23-year-old was taken to the Maggiore Hospital for treatment but her life is not in danger.
