We publish what we read on the ICG Grassa page: At the conclusion of the project “Humankind: itineraries of equality and legality”, on 14 June 2024, on the initiative of the school director, Dr. Mariella Misuraca, the teachers of the Comprehensive Institute ” Giuseppe Grassa” lived an intense experience between art and culture in the city of Palermo. The day had a strong educational and moral significance, touching on issues of justice and social commitment. The outing began with a visit to the majestic Palazzo dei Normanni.

Here, teachers explored the splendid royal halls and the famous Palatine Chapel, with its golden mosaics representing the meeting of different cultures. Next, the group headed to Palermo Cathedral. In addition to admiring the impressive architecture and artistic treasures of the Duomo, the teachers stopped at the tomb of Pino Puglisi, the priest killed by the mafia in 1993. The professor’s speech was touching. Stefano Tringali, activist from Addiopizzo, who recalled the priest’s tenacity in countering the spread of mafia culture through the education and instruction of the new generations. The next stop was the Martorana Church, known for its Byzantine mosaics and its architecture.

The route continued through other monumental emergencies to end in the center of the city centre, “I Quattro Canti”, a baroque crossroads which represents the beating heart of Palermo. Special thanks to the Federico II Foundation which made the visit to the Royal Palace possible , seat of the Sicilian Regional Assembly. The day was spent sharing, joviality and harmony, elements that characterize a healthy school community founded on the values of legality.
