Also this year the event, inspired by the theme “A sea without borders”, proposed itself as a point of reference for the activities of the sea and on the sea in the Upper Adriatic. With the patronage of the City of Umag and the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Safety in co-organization with the Municipality of Trieste and the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the event came to an end yesterday afternoon, with the arrival of Silvia Boidi in the sea in front of Piazza Unità in Trieste. The athlete from Turin is a non-competitive long-distance swimmer, a lover of the sea, who has already faced challenges of this kind. Since 2010 she has extended her passion outside the pool, where she goes once a week for an hour and a half swim. She regularly began tackling large open sea crossings, with a cap and goggles, without any specific training.

Precisely in this way she began to make herself known, when she became the first woman to have swum across the Strait of Bonifacio, the strait that separates Corsica and Sardinia. Her latest challenge was the Crossing of the Three Nations, for which she set off from Punta Salvore towards Trieste, for a total of 27km of strokes. The Turin champion was accompanied for some stretches along the route by four Croatian athletes, but also by the deputy mayor of Umag, Mauro Jurman, who accompanied her in the sea until she left the port of Savudrija. Unfortunately, weather and sea conditions had to shorten the overall distance initially planned, but Silvia Boidi swam for 18km, until she landed in front of Piazza Unità d’Italia at 4.30pm yesterday afternoon, with a warm welcome from the public of Northeast Sea.
