52 people were welcomed in the area, nine minors

An opportunity to remember that there can be no inclusion without an open, inclusive and supportive community in which everyone can feel at home and realize their potential. World Refugee Day is celebrated on Thursday 20 June, an annual event established in 2001 by the United Nations General Assembly to commemorate the approval in 1951 in Geneva of the Convention relating to the status of refugees. This important anniversary has the main purpose of putting the person at the center and raising public awareness of the condition of millions of refugees and asylum seekers who, forced to flee wars and violence, abandon their loved ones, their homes and everything that is part of their life.

As part of the SAI project (Reception and Integration System), constituted by the network of local authorities which, for the implementation of integrated reception projects for International Protection Applicants and Refugees, access the National Fund for Asylum Policies and Services, a Cesena and in the other municipalities of the Valle Savio Union there are 60 active positions, of which, at the moment, 52 are occupied (among these 9 are minors). These are people from Afghanistan, Ukraine, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Central West Africa, Syria and Burma. At a territorial level, local authorities, supported by third sector entities, guarantee integrated reception interventions that go beyond just hospitality in structures and the distribution of food, providing information, tutoring, assistance, orientation and job placement measures, through the construction of individual integration paths aimed at re-conquering the autonomy of the beneficiaries.

In order to shine a spotlight on this condition, Asp Cesena Valle Savio and the SAI project of the Unione Valle Savio some initiatives scheduled for Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd June. We begin on Friday 21 June, at 9.00 pm, with an evening at the Eliseo multiplex cinema (via Giosuè Carducci, 7), with “Il Secolo Mobile”, a live show that tells of a multimedia journey through words, images, with the journalist Gabriele del Grande.

It will continue on Saturday 22 June, at 7.00 pm, with a dinner at Cucine Popolari (via Niccolò Machiavelli, 40). The beneficiaries of the SAI project will support the volunteers of Cucine Popular in preparing delicacies from Italy and the world. The evening will be enriched by the musical accompaniment of Jabel Kanuteh, poet, musician and storyteller from Gambia, who will play with his Kora, a traditional stringed instrument of the Griot from central-west Africa.

The Sai project has been active since 2002, the year the network was created on the national territory. Joining the SAI network is a voluntary choice by the Union, which for twenty years has freely decided to enhance its territory by being open to welcoming women, men and children fleeing from their countries of origin. Specifically, the project team provides day and night reception services in the project facilities; daily contributions for food and personal hygiene; provision of adequate clothing; compilation of an Individualized Integrated Reception Project, aimed at defining the integration objectives to be achieved during the stay in the project; psychological support; orientation and accompaniment to local services (health, education, professional training, employment assistance, etc.); professional training courses and internships; literacy and Italian language courses, with certification of the levels achieved in collaboration with the relevant bodies; linguistic, social and cultural mediation; job search support, CV compilation, skills assessment; support in finding accommodation.
