A 38-year-old motorist who was reported by the local police of Modena for driving while intoxicated lost control of his car and ended up at the “Grappolo d’Uva” roundabout: the man, in fact, got behind the wheel with a blood alcohol level of six times above the allowed. Fortunately, the driver only suffered minor injuries. No other cars were involved in the accident, which occurred shortly after 10pm on Thursday 13 June, in Strada Vignolese.

As reconstructed by the local police, the man, resident outside Modena, was driving his car, a BMW, along Via Vignolese, towards the suburbs, when, for reasons under investigation, he lost control of the vehicle, crashing into the roundabout of the “Bunch of Grapes”. Local police operators intervened on site to start the planned investigations.

The man was therefore subjected to an alcohol test: the test revealed that he was in a state of alteration, with an alcohol level six times above the permitted limit (the limit is 0.5), placing him, therefore, in the third band identified by the regulations, i.e. the most serious. Consequently, the driver was charged with the crime defined by article 186 of the Highway Code and his license was withdrawn, while the vehicle, owned by another person, was not affected by any measures. After the investigation, the motorist, slightly injured, was taken to the emergency room of the Baggiovara hospital.

The judicial authority will now decide to what extent to apply any criminal sanction against him (the fine ranges from 800 to 3,200 euros) and the additional charges, including the deduction of points and the duration of the suspension of the drives for six months to a year. The fine may also be increased by a third to a half, since the crimes were committed at night (after 10pm and before 7am).
