Monza. Every year too many children lose their lives due to accidents that could easily be prevented with correct first aid training. And that’s why, Mirko Damasco president of Salvagente Italia, has decided to activate an online petition to make first aid a compulsory school subject. “Children continue to die because adults are not trained,” declares.

The latest tragedy dates back to a few weeks ago. The victim was a one and a half year old girl from Venice, who accidentally ingested a plastic cap. Nothing for her to do. From this latest incident, Mirko Damasco started with his online campaign which, from 2 June to today, has already collected over 10 thousand signatures (the goal is 15 thousand, ed.).

The statistics are clear: many child deaths could be avoided if only adults were adequately trained on how to act in emergency situations. Lifesaver Italy, with his campaign, wants to change this situation. Their mission is to ensure that everyone, from prospective parents to school workers, has the necessary skills to intervene effectively in an emergency.

“We want prevention and first aid courses, including unblocking, to be mandatory in antenatal courses and for those who work with children”, underlines Damascus.

Salvagente Italia’s petition calls for the mandatory introduction of first aid and obstruction courses in two main areas:
1. Prenatal courses: Educate future parents on how to deal with emergency situations from the first moments of the child’s life.
2. School Operators and Childcare Professionals: Ensure that anyone who works closely with children, such as teachers and assistants, is adequately trained.

A crucial aspect of the petition is the introduction of the first aid as a compulsory school subject. In many countries, in fact, this is already a consolidated reality. Children and young people are trained from an early age on how to behave in an emergency, acquiring skills that can save human lives.

Salvagente Italia claims that Italy should not be outdone. Integrating first aid into the school curriculum would mean preparing a generation of citizens who are more aware and ready to face crisis situations with calm and competence.
