Italian Bus Industry, the Ugl warns: the Government must convene a table
Avellino.

“Invitalia and Leonardo are guarantors of an individual project of the only Italian company that produces buses. The Government’s decision on the sale of the shares of Industria Italiana Autobus was too hasty, it leads to a dead end. The Ugl Metalmeccanici gives, in immediate, willingness to find solutions that cannot be solely for the interest of the Seri group, believing there are too many doubts for a very important project in which the Government has invested 200 million euros”.

This is the comment of Antonio Spera, National Secretary of the Ugl Metalworkers for whom, “we ask the Government to take a step back from the sale to an entrepreneurial group from the province of Caserta considered, both by the UglM and by the workers, unsuitable to the type of industrial production of the company. There is a need – continues Spera – to convene a table with all the industrial entities, with the regions in the presence of their respective Governors as well as Invitalia and Leonardo to review this operation with very serious, unacceptable aspects, which causes great concern. The Government reopens the negotiations to verify a possible offer from another entrepreneurial consortium: as Ugl Metalmeccanici we have been little informed about the Seri Group’s operations regarding the project, where we believe that it does not have the characteristics to support a structure like that of Industria italiana buses, as this company has never produced or marketed a bus, but only components. The two state-controlled groups, Invitalia and Leonardo, are carrying out an anomalous operation, without this being accompanied by an industrial project shared by everyone and primarily by the union. There is an urgent need to reopen the table so that we can all discuss the proposals in place or to be put in place to clear up all our concerns, considering that on this major issue the union has not been called to a meeting with the two groups that have presented proposals, or to discuss their respective industrial plans. For the UglM – concludes Spera – there is margin for revaluation and recovery, aware that there is a great market opportunity in local public transport in Italy, thanks to the investments of the Pnrr, and it is not clear why everything should be handed over to foreign companies and in fact make an agreement with a large Chinese group, which has already visited the factories in our territories”.
