16/06/2024 – The Italian national team has achieved qualification for the 2024 Olympics, scheduled to be held in Paris this summer, thanks to 10 victories in 12 matches which also guaranteed it passage to the final phase of the Volley Nations League (finals in Bangkok from 20 to 23 June).

Among the players selected by the technical commissioner Julio Velasco, space for the two hitters of the Megabox Alice Degradi and Gaia Giovannini, who in the last match of the preliminary phase, played in Fukuoka (Japan), played in the starting sextet that got rid of in four sets of Serbia: Degradi scored 18 points, with 4 blocks and 2 aces, while Giovannini scored 9 points with 2 winning serves.

Thus Gaia after the victory against South Korea, which gave the Italians the certainty of qualification for the Olympics: “I am very happy to have had the opportunity to play and my performance on the pitch, but more generally I am very happy with the test of team that we have managed to offer. This gives us hope for the next important matches that await us but in general I can only be happy with my personal debut in blue. I remained calm, unexpectedly because wearing the national team shirt had always been a goal of mine. I took to the field with serenity because without it I would have struggled to give my best.”

The joy for the Italian success of the two tigers is increased by the feat achieved by the Netherlands of Alessandro Bracceschi, athletic trainer of the Megabox and of the Orange national team, who also qualified for the Olympics and will play in the finals of the Volley Nations League.
