From Imola to Marina di Ravenna «Cinema Divino»: the creator Catani says: «Unique evenings»

Elena Nencini
Film buffs meet wine enthusiasts in a fruitful cultural exchange, also thanks to the landscape, in the “Divine Cinema” event, now in its 21st edition. Carlo Catani from Faenza who takes care of the cure is ready for a unique summer. Film, wine and landscapes are the three elements that for Catani make the evenings of «Cinema divino» unrepeatable, the event that started in Faenza way back in 2003 thanks to Valter Dal Pane. First appointments on Tuesday 18 June at Casa Spadoni in Faenza with «Berchidda live», while on 19 June at Villa Monty Bansky in Cesena with «50 km per hour».
21st year of «Divine Cinema», how has the event changed?
«The event reaches its 21st edition even though I only took over in 2012: initially they were three experimental evenings of three friendly wineries, passionate about cinema, I think we had around 80 people in the first edition. There has been a huge change in recent years, they have become evenings of sharing in a moment of celebration. The event was structured in other regions of Italy: even if Covid stopped us, in Friuli we started again with the tenth edition.”
How many evenings in Emilia Romagna?
«We should reach 30 evenings, in other years we even reached 60 events, but it was unmanageable. Thanks also to the food trucks that offer the possibility of ‘covering’ places that are not equipped, we have expanded to involve beach establishments and wineries. We are a traveling exhibition, we go to places and leave them as we found them. We are an imperceptible festive presence in places that are not always easy to reach, where we tell the philosophy of the producers. The third ally is the landscape, we talk about unique evenings, a film, a wine, a place that is different every time. We chose places and films paying even more attention to green and sustainable issues, also thanks to less production of paper programmes”.
New places that have joined the initiative?
«There are several locations already connected and chosen by the wineries, the Tozzi winery for example, in Casola Valsenio collaborates with the restaurant nearby, interesting collaborations often arise, it is not easy to choose the locations because you have to check that the spaces are correct, can contain the right number of people, there is electricity, there are permits. We like to think that we provide magical moments for cinema that is experiencing moments of crisis.”
What is the winning formula of this event?
«We have a hard core of wineries – around 70-75% – who have worked with us for years, 25% of subjects who alternate or are new. We want to contaminate different audiences, wine lovers and cinema lovers: we are still in negotiations with some wineries that we hope to materialize soon: Podere Nespoli will be there after several years, with Villa Monti Bansky in the Cesena area we will return with two evenings. For the first time there will be an oil mill, Valsanterno, which will offer a double tasting of oil and wine.”
