“Keeping the resources of the Cohesion Fund in the freezer is a logical and political absurdity. There is a treasure and it is kept under lock and key. It is not right: I appeal, on behalf of the Mayors and as a member of the ANCI Board of Directors , to Minister Raffaele Fitto, to the President of Campania Vincenzo De Luca, to fellow Mayors of Campania to mobilize: resources that belong to the Municipalities and which the Municipalities cannot do without are not held hostage”, the mayor writes in a note Clemente Mastella from Benevento.
“I understand, although I didn’t agree with them from the beginning, that the context of a political dialectic, even a decisive one, can produce harshness. However, I found it bizarre that we ended up in court, delegating the decision-making power to the administrative judges: it was a signal of weakness of the institutions and a further abdication of politics. Now I read about a time frame indicated by the Council of State. But the point is that the impasse must be overcome now and by the political institutions. The elections are over and it’s time to immediately activate an institutional dialogue which naturally includes the Mayors as protagonists. The resources must be released by the end of the month and then disbursed quickly, also so as not to compromise irreplaceably important summer events. This would be madness it is obligatory to do so”, concludes the Mayor of Benevento Mastella.
