A 66-year-old man residing in Lanuviumdrowned this afternoon, around 4.30 pm, in the stretch of sea of Ponente to Anzio. The episode occurred on the stretch of free beach, approximately 500 metres, between the beach establishments Lido Garda and Pilone. The alarm was raised by the man’s partner who was swimming with him in the water. She too was in difficulty and asked for help. Her cries were heard by a 17-year-old boy, Christopher, who reached her and managed, despite the strength of the currents and her undertow, to carry her safely towards her rocks. She was the one who also asked for help for her partner. They were exciting moments. The swimmers who were on the beach raised the alarm and asked for help from the lifeguards of the nearby Lido Garda bathing establishment who reached the site of the drowning. Precisely in those moments, the man’s body was seen emerging at the height of the cliff parallel to the coast. Rescuers immediately reached him and brought him to shore. Everything was done to save his life with prolonged cardiac massage, but it was of no use. The man didn’t make it.
