Potenza: united with Telesca in the run-off, but without any ties

Potenza: united with Telesca in the run-off, but without any ties

The centre-right candidate Francesco Fanelli failed to make it in the first round. The center left who ran divided into three segments was able to see that if he had gone together he could have already been leading the city today. But this was not the case and for this reason the second round of the ballot will be needed (23 and 24 June) in which he must hope to be able to channel all the consensus gathered from the three streams into a single channel. Which is not at all obvious. Especially if you continue to demonstrate a substantial inability to overcome the initial separation in the formula provided by law, i.e. “the apparition“, making this unitary intent visible on the card. In fact, despite only a few days ago Smaldone in a note reporting a meeting in which “Telesca reiterated his desire to recompose the progressive camp. It is also our priority.” but what “Our response, however, is that there can be no recomposition except with a clear similarity on the ballot paper.“, in the end there was no formal agreement in view of the run-off between Vincenzo Telesca and the political forces that supported the candidacies of Pierluigi Smaldone and Francesco Giuzio in the first round. It is clear that the lack of predisposition of the lists that support Telesca to give up seats on the council to newcomers in the event of victory must have prevailed. But despite the niet, it seems that Smaldone and Giuzio have drafted and decided to support Telesca anyway. This can be seen from the following programmatic document which states that: “The alternative political forces to the outgoing Lega-led administration have met in order to agree on an alliance in view of the run-off elections on 23 and 24 June 2024. Representing the three sides are the three candidates for mayor Vincenzo Telesca, Pierluigi Smaldone and Francesco Giuzio. Pierluigi Smaldone, representing the civic lists “Potenza Ritorna”, “Città Nuova” and the “Five Star Movement”, and Francesco Giuzio, representing “La Basilicata Possibile”, proposed a formal alliance, as per the mandate received from the lists and parties respectively in support of them. After a careful analysis of the vote and the political perspectives in the field, the mayoral candidate Vincenzo Telesca proposed instead the sharing of a programmatic agreement aimed at sharing a project which not only looks at the liberation of Potenza from the Right, but which finally finds , the way for the aggregation of a reformist and progressive camp in Basilicata. Having positively evaluated the outcome of the consultation also with their own electoral base, Pierluigi Smaldone and Francesco Giuzio, respectively representing their own lists, decided to accept the proposal, sharing its guiding principles. While the right is bent on dividing seats and identifying positions for individuals, the beacon of this nascent group is one and only one: the common good! The spirit that unites the three mayoral candidates, in fact, starts from the sharing of a vision, planning and planning necessary for the capital. Among the qualifying points of the shared program: Stop land consumption by encouraging urban regeneration and the reuse of abandoned properties. Creation of meeting and participation spaces for citizens.
Connection between University and the city’s social fabric.
Request to the Government for the appointment of an extraordinary commissioner for Bucaletto.
Incisive action towards the Region and the Government for the construction of the link road connecting Polla to the Salerno-Reggio Calabria high-speed line.
Activation of the Teatro Stabile Foundation by November 2024 (so as to be able to apply for national funding in January 2025).
Extraordinary plan for the districts and suburbs with the creation of a department dedicated to the districts.
Renewed attention to the historic center, in its peculiarities, with the appointment of the councilor for the Historic Center and Tourism (read exemption for commercial premises, review of the mechanized and road public transport service, urban decoration).
Sport as a driving force for the city’s socioeconomic development; establishment of a Sports Citadel.
Initiatives to enhance the natural beauty and green areas of our city. Revisitation of the separate waste collection system that will lead Potenza to become a zero waste city.
Evaluation of a municipal company for the autonomous management of transport for Potenza and neighboring countries.
The sharing of a firm no to Differentiated Autonomy, which wants to remove resources from our already tormented realities to bring them towards the north, was unanimous, together with the denunciation of the mismanagement of the right-wing parties that have brought the capital into the situation in which it finds itself. A political laboratory is therefore born in Potenza which, thanks to the understanding and sacrifice of the coalitions that have chosen to undertake a common path, united to bring real change to Potenza, can lay the foundations for a structured relationship also on a regional level .” As is evident, the top of the two lists that came in third and fourth had to make adjustments like it or not. Will the voters who voted for them in the first round do the same, or will the poor consideration received weigh negatively on their decisions? We’ll see. Let’s say that the center-left in Basilicata increasingly likes the “let’s make it weird“, and then go and see how it ends….
