Banks, there are 119 municipalities in Abruzzo served by physical branches – Notizie d’Abruzzo

At the end of 2023, there were 35 banks present in Abruzzo with their own branches, one less than the previous year and the number of those with administrative headquarters in the region, all operating in the cooperative credit sector, remained unchanged at seven units.

The data is provided by the Bank of Italy’s annual report on the economy of Abruzzo, which highlights how the downsizing of the territorial network of banks continues in the region. At the end of 2023 there were 407 branches from 429 the previous year with a contraction of 5.1%, greater than the Italian average.

The municipalities served by physical bank branches, observes the report drawn up by the regional headquarters of L’Aquila, are 119 compared to the 126 municipalities in 2022. The reduction in the presence of banks in the area was accompanied by a further growth in the diffusion of the use of digital channels by banking customers: in 2023, 54.1% of the Abruzzo population had signed home banking contracts and the share of bank transfers arranged via online tools was 86% (51.5 and 84.5 percent respectively in 2022). However, the use of banking services via the internet, adds the Bank of Italy report, remains lower than the national average.
