In Bra, Canale, Cuneo, the fines podium

Bra, Canale, Cuneo. These are the three cities in the province of Cuneo that in 2023 collected the most money from fines and penalties for Highway Code crimes. And we’re talking about big numbers. Almost 2 million euros for Bra, just over one and a half million for Canale and just under one and a half million for Cuneo. Just behind, occupying fourth position, is Alba, with its 1,403 thousand euros. These are data that will make the hairs of motorists from the cities on the podium stand on end, disseminated by the Facile.it portal and processed by Siope, the Information System of Public Bodies Operations. The amount is mostly due to the fines imposed with speed cameras and cameras mounted at traffic lights near the most dangerous intersections.

The record of Turin

But what is the picture of the “fines situation” on a rational level? If we analyze the eight provincial capitals, we discover that the fines have yielded a treasure of 68.3 million euros. In reality, the majority of the nest egg belongs to the city of Turin, which alone has scraped together 54.6 million euros on the backs of undisciplined motorists. Much further away are Alessandria with 3.7, Asti with 3, Novara with 2 and Cuneo with “just” 1,491,287 euros. Money – all the administrations interviewed were quick to point out – reinvested in safety projects and construction sites, but also in awareness-raising activities, both towards motorists and school children, on the many dangers of the road, whether traveling by car, like on a motorbike, bike or scooter. The figures of the Municipalities that are positioned just further back in the ranking are much lower, with three municipalities in our territory that exceed the 50,000 euro threshold: Cherasco, Guarene and Magliano Alfieri.
