An exciting journey through time, to discover the thousand-year history of Crotone, narrated with the spontaneity and enthusiasm of children. This is what took place on Friday 14 June at the gym of the Don Milani Comprehensive Institute, on the occasion of the end-of-school-year performance of the Bernabò nursery school.

Under the expert guidance of their teachers, the little 5-year-old students have transformed into true ambassadors of the history of Kroton, retracing its events from its foundation in Magna Graecia to the present day.

The scenography, with attention to the smallest details, transported the audience into an evocative atmosphere, with the majestic Colonna di Capocolonna as the backdrop to imposing tripods and vases overflowing with laurel. To the enthralling rhythm of Carmina Burana, the children danced with grace and harmony, evoking ancient rituals and celebrating the greatness of their city.

With great naturalness, the little protagonists stepped into the shoes of illustrious characters who contributed to writing the history of Kroton. Mixture of Ripe, Milo, Pythagoras, Alcmaeon, Pythias, Zeus, Hera Lacinia, Heros and Pollon: each figure was interpreted with panache and sympathy, winning the hearts of the audience with ironic jokes and some nice references to the local dialect.

Poetry, music and a pinch of imagination

The performance ranged between different expressive languages, involving the children in a whirlwind of emotions. They recited poetic verses dedicated to their beloved Crotone, in particular to the Madonna of Capocolonna, to whom they sang the song “Nera e bella” with devotion.

And to add a touch of fantasy, the famous song by Pollon, the joyful little girl who wishes to become a goddess, could not be missing. A moment of joy and carefreeness that infected everyone present.

The representation “Kroton tells” was the result of a wide-ranging educational project, which saw the teachers engaged for several months. Through videos, stories, books, images and above all drawings, the children were able to deepen their knowledge of the history of the city, becoming familiar with the characters, places and events that have made Crotone a unique and precious reality.

The teachers’ commitment and the children’s enthusiasm were amply rewarded by the thunderous applause of the parents, moved and proud of their little protagonists.

The “Kroton Tells” performance represented a moment of great educational and cultural value, not only for the children but for the entire community. A message of knowledge, respect and love for one’s city, transmitted with the freshness and spontaneity of those who have just begun to discover the beauty of the world.
