AnimeClick presents: Anime Mirai Festival – 21st and 22nd September in Turin

The first Japanese animation film festival totally managed by us, in Turin – Cinema Massimo, on 20, 21 and 22 September.

by Ironic74

And here we are! After years in which we participated in the most important fairs, first as stand holders and then as media partners, and after having created events ad hoc in bookstores, cinemas and comic shops, we at AnimeClick feel ready for a new adventure.

With the world of anime and manga becoming increasingly popular, publishers and personalities in the sector need the right stage that can catalyze people’s attention with our same passion live in an event that has only this as its main focus. Large and successful festivals and events already exist abroad. Here in Italy, however, no.

This is why we believe that the time is ripe for this type of event whose name will be Mirai Souls (which means “future” in Japanese) Festival.

WHERE?

There event will last 2 days (and a half!)from late morning to evening at cinema Massimo in Turin (HERE the link), more precisely in the third room with 147 seats also used for conferences and meetings, as well as already the scene of many exhibitions linked to the world of cinema and also animation. A reality linked to Turin Cinema Museumwhich also testifies to our desire first and foremost to create a cultural event, and then a sector convention.

The Cinema Massimo, located a few steps from the Mole Antonelliana, was built in the 1930s with a single screening room; in the following decades it changed owners several times, until it was handed over to the National Cinema Museum in 1986. Following the renovation works (2001), the Massimo became a cutting-edge multiplex, home to important festivals and exhibitions.

We will also have the possibility of holding two free events at the same time asUniversity of Turinin the Palazzina Aldo Moro a few steps from the multiplex, which granted us the use of a classroom to talk about animation and comics within the walls of the prestigious university.

WHEN WILL’?

The third weekend of September starting from the late afternoon of Friday 20th (meeting at the University) to continue with the actual festival on 21st and 22nd September. This is so as not to directly coincide with trade fairs and important events and to accommodate younger people but also those who work during the week.

How does it work and how much does it cost?

The Festival will host a varied series of films whose screening will include, both before and after, an in-depth discussion with various guests.
The screenings will be individual (as in all festivals) so everyone will be able to choose what and when to see, buying a ticket for each event.

Ticket prices:
Full price €6.00;
Reduced: AIACE/TorinoMusei/under18/students evening/over 60 evening €4.00;
over 60/afternoon students €3.00
The presale will start at the beginning of September on the Cinema Massimo website, we will notify you.

What films have been confirmed for now?

We are in negotiations for several films, some of which we are asking directly in Japan. For now the first confirmed films will be:

BLUE GIANT

Only one screening so far in Italy, last year Milan Games Week & Cartoomics. Anime Mirai Festival will be the last opportunity to see this film at the cinema before its release for the Home Video market, thanks to the kind permission of Anime factory. The anime is based on the manga of the same name by Shinichi Ishizuka published in Italy by da J-Pop.

Plot: Dai Miyamoto, a third-year middle school student whose heart has been touched by jazz, plays his saxophone incessantly in Kawahara, alone, rain or shine, day or night, for many, many years. “I want to become the greatest saxophonist in the world!”. Effort, talent, faith, training, luck… what is needed to achieve his goal?

GOODBYE, DONGLEES!

The studio film Madhouse, Goodbye, DonGlees!original work by Atsuko Ishizuka (A place further than the universe), presented in competition at Annecy Festival 2022 and candidate for Mainichi Film Awards 2023in Italy it was released for Anime Factory only for the home video market. The festival will therefore be its first and only cinema screening in Italy!

Plot: Roma is a boy who lives in a country town not far from Tokyo. Unable to settle into his surroundings, he forms a team of only two people, the “DonGlees”, with a person who is not as integrated as him, Toto. Even though Toto went to a high school in Tokyo and they separated, their relationship certainly didn’t change. High school summer holidays. It all started with an extemporaneous comment from Drop, who had just joined “DonGlees”. Roma and Toto, who were framed as the culprits of a mountain fire for having been carried away by Drop’s words, are forced to go in search of a drone that disappeared beyond the sky to find proof of their innocence. The small adventure of a summer will eventually evolve into a great adventure that will radically change the kids’ lives.

GODZILLA MINUS ONE

Godzilla Minus Onea Japanese remake/reboot made to mark the 70th anniversary of the release of the very first film about the most famous of kaiju (released 1954), written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki (Space Battleship Yamato – Live Action, Lupine III: The First, The Eternal Zero).

Let’s remember that this film won the Oscar Awards 2024 in the best special effects category, becoming the first film of Godzilla to receive this recognition, as well as the first non-English language film to receive the statuette. We therefore couldn’t not celebrate this iconic monster if not by bringing this beautiful film back to the cinema, for the benefit of those who couldn’t go and those who want to see it again… and then talking about kaiju all together!

PERFECT BLUE

It was the first film requested for the festival, before we even knew about the cinema release in the restored 4K version from 22 to 24 April.
The work of Satoshi Konwill then return for a new viewing on the big screen in a restored 4K version thanks to Nexo Digital And Yamato Video. It will be an opportunity for a heartfelt study of the art of this never-too-lamented director

Plot: Mima is a 21-year-old pop singer on the crest of a wave: but her decision to abandon the world of music to become an actress and then pose nude for a magazine is badly received by one of her die-hard fans who cannot tolerate her change. image, thus causing various accidents on the set. Mima begins to ask herself questions about her identity, starting to no longer recognize herself, no longer knowing which version of herself is the real one: idol, actress, ordinary person or a mere illusion of herself?

We have revealed only part of the papers that I have been working on for months now, as you know I have always let the facts speak to support Japanese animation and comics, this will be my definitive act of love.
I want to point out that
AnimeClick will earn nothing from the tickets, the proceeds of which will go to the cinema that has supported us from the beginning. I really hope you can understand the importance of what is being done, and which already involves many important entities in the sector (and others will soon be added) such as the friends of Dystopia Evangelion/Eva Impact, AnimeTeaTime, Voci Animate, Andrea Fontana, Fabrizio Modina, Edoardo Serino and many others.
I know that many would like the festival, or at least such opportunities, in their cities or areas. I assure you that the choice of Turin was not made lightly but by examining the right possibilities offered to make such an event work well.
I can’t wait to announce the arrival of a seminal film in the history of Japanese animated cinema, which would be screened in 4K for the first time, fingers crossed!
Come and experience all this with us on the weekend of 20, 21 and 22 September, follow all the information we will give you. Let all this grow and become important.
