She is the Czech painter Adéla Janska (Olomouc, 1981) the first artist chosen by Rolando Anselmi who from 8 July 2024 will reside in the Capitoline city. Currently active in New York with a solo show at Half Gallery, Janskà’s paintings explore the aesthetics linked to femininity, portraying solitary figures who inhabit environments similar to dolls’ houses: “these figures, with shiny skin reminiscent of porcelain surfaces, appear isolated within limited spaces, silhouetted against backgrounds of undefined domestic environments. Sometimes they are absorbed in their activities, other times ready to face the viewer with a challenging and sensual gaze. The paintings are not to be considered simple portraits, but representations of collective female identities, fictitious selves navigating the tension between exposure and concealment”, they continue from the gallery. Janskà will be working on the project until August included restitution exhibition which he will then present in September 2024 in the same spaces in which he lived.
