Over 450 unionists and supporters participated in the extraordinary Congress of the Union Valdôtaine this morning, Sunday 16 June, which saw the return to the parent company of a good number of former unionists arriving from Alliance Valdôtaine (formerly Alpe) and VdA Unie-Mouv’ (formerly Uvp).
The interventions
Albert Chatrian, fresh from the Lion Rampant membership card, underlined when announcing the establishment of a single 11-member unionist group in the Valle d’Aosta Council: «We are going to write an important page for the Aosta Valley. We must become a point of reference, a solid and plural movement that puts good politics at the centre.”
Even in the Municipality of Aosta there will be a single unionist group. He announced it Corrado Cometto who spoke of the reunion as a ‘win-win’ operation.
For Luciano Caveri «we had the courage to come together to give a future to the young generations. It doesn’t mean giving up differences of ideas but union is an important force to face the challenges that await us such as the energy transition, climate change, the demographic crisis, immigration and many others.”
In taking leave – welcomed by warm applause – the president Cristina Machet she said: «I am happy because we have achieved this result and I am sad because it is my last speech as president. She is still convinced of my step backwards because “I think it is right to pass the baton and it is positive that there is more than one candidate”. In closing, she thanked Erik Laverez who “started the journey in 2018”.
