Many events have their “star”, the absolute protagonist capable of capturing all the attention of the public. The Truck Rally XX Secolo, a cult event for truck drivers which for its fifteenth edition has landed at none other than the Bergamo Fair for two days (15 and 16 June) full of fun (between lunches in company and competitions”) but also of charity (with part of the proceeds and donations donated to associations that help sick children) even displayed a “striped star”. Yes, because among the over 160 heavy vehicles on display, including some trucks from the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s and the modern trucks protagonists on the sands of the Dakar desert, was above all an “American curmudgeon”: to be precise a Kenworth, symbol, together with its rivals Peterbilt, of the American “trucking culture”, one of those colossal “18-wheeled” vehicles, real palaces on wheels with cockpits equipped with bathroom and kitchen, consecrated on the big screen with films such as Convoy – Asphalt Trench, directed by Sam Peckinpah and starring Kris Kristofferson and Ali MacGraw.Trucks that have become legendary, a symbol of endless journeys across infinite expanses, one of which crossed the doors of the Bergamo Fair, immediately becoming its brightest “star” (striped). Closely followed by another equally admired vehicle: the “private” truck of Carlo Casati, known to everyone in the world of road beasts as “Carletto the peste”, from Valtellina from Barzio who, having stopped driving for work, decided to purchase and register for private use a Renault which, thanks to its Indian style, the airbrushed drawings and the photographs (splendid those of the bear and the pack of wolves) printed on the sides, as well as its gigantic “trike” motorbike transported in the semi-trailer, is punctually one of the attractions of various rallies in which he participates, as he himself explained, “exclusively to contribute to charity”. Showing off your vehicle to contribute to the success of various events. Exactly as happened with the one in Bergamo, where his truck is the one capable of bringing to the minds of many film fans the giants of the road led in “Convoy” by the truck driver Martin, known as “Rubber Duck”, and his colleagues ” Casino ambulante” and “Silver Streak” contributed to the success of an initiative which found a very strong “boost” in the economic support provided by Fai (Federation of Italian road hauliers) of Bergamo, and by Sinergie & Servizi and Ebitral, respectively the service company created by the same federation and the bilateral body which, in addition to Fai, features Filt – Cgil, Fit – Cisl and Uiltrasporti of Bergamo. Ready to support the organizer of the event, Cristian “Ciri” Calsona, in raising funds to help both the young patients hospitalized in pediatric departments and their families who are often forced to travel long distances to help their children. Hard, tiring trips that no one can understand better than a truck driver…
