The historic center of Imola gets a new look with new planters, benches and plants

As promised by Mayor Panieri, the historic center continues to change and qualify, responding to the needs of the city. In recent days, around twenty pieces of furniture have been installed, including planters, benches and plantings to improve the decoration and liveability in the squares and streets of the centre. The intervention costs around 65 thousand euros and is part of the broader redevelopment project that the Municipality has been implementing for some time to make the historic center more attractive, beautiful and livable.

In detail, the planters and benches were positioned in Piazza Caduti per la Libertà, in via Emilia Est, in via Emilia Ovest, in via Appia and in via Garibaldi in front of the entrance to the University. The installations are in corten steel, with the seating benches in wooden decking slats. Holm oaks, viburnum, Loropetalum and sweet osmanthus (Olea fragrans) were planted inside the planters.

«Even with the investment in new furnishings, the steps to relaunch the historic center continue – underlines the mayor Marco Panieri -. The theme of urban decoration has always been very important for us, in synergy with the centre’s activities, and that of sustainability, having wanted to choose “green” furnishings with naturalistic elements that contribute to the liveability of the streets and squares. The positioning was agreed not only with the flows and significant places of the city, but also with the dialogue and requests coming from the realities that live in the centre. There are other things to do in the center, for example we are studying interventions on parking and other initiatives, but I believe that, especially in recent months and with the new openings, we are trying to achieve that change of pace that is within our reach. Reiterating the invitation to all the people of Imola to experience the historic center more, I believe an effort of perception and narration on the part of those who live and frequent it is also needed.”
