CATANIA – Great participation yesterday at the final demonstration of the second edition of “Take…a simulated trial to avoid a real trial“, which was held in the Auditorium of the Via Velletri complex of theComprehensive Institute “A. Weed”the project’s hub school, directed by Dr Agata Pappalardo. The initiative, promoted by the President of the Juvenile Court of Catania, Dr. Roberto Di Bella and created by the Association “Ciak – Training and legality”, with the financing ofUSR Sicily and in collaboration with the Municipality of Cataniasaw involved 500 students from schools of all levels in the city and in the municipalities of the district, who, under the expert guidance of the teachers and with the precious help of the families, tried their hand at simulation of a real juvenile criminal trialtaking on the roles of the various parts within a classroom Justice palace of Catania.
Process simulation as the final phase of the project
The boys, after an intense journey of preparation conducted at school and supervised by judge Dr Roberta Mallamacipresident of the association “Ciak – Training and legality“, they wore the togainterpreting scripts who had assigned a specific role to each. They have been judges, lawyers, victims, defendants, witnesses, clerks, bailiffs, personifying judicial matters with themes of sad realities, close to the world of teenagers. They breathed”air of legality“, they understood the importance of follow the rules and they appreciated the value of justiceand then conclude “with a flourish” by creating a audiovisual work suitable for the diffusion of lived experience.
“The project – the school director of the IC “A.” tells us. Malerba”, polo school and host of the final event – has a significant impact on skills development of citizenship, of cooperation, but also of promotion of legality” and helps young people reflect on their behavior for a civil and peaceful coexistence.

The awarded schools
Among the schools participating in the project, which were delivered a certificatetook place awards for multimedia products. Below is the list.
Lower Secondary Schools:
- First prize: IC Statale “Francesco Petrarca” of Catania;
- Second prize: IC “Diaz Manzoni of Catana and IC Statale “CV Bascetta” of Adrano;
- Third prize: IC “Gaetano Ponte” of Palagonia and IC “Leonardo da Vinci” of Castel Di Judica.
Secondary schools:
- First prize: “Boggio Lera” State High School in Catania;
- Second prize: IIS “Carlo Gemellaro” of Catania;
- Third prize: IS “Ven. I. Capizzi” of Bronte.
Furthermore, one was delivered plate at the “Majorana” Scientific High School in Scordia.
