The General Manager Lucky Life made the point, interviewed by Giovanni Mafrici on Rac.
“It’s a fairly intense period not only from a basketball transfer point of view. It is also intense from the point of view of organizing the season because even if we are still far from the start of the first season of the championship we face the procedures of many activities to do”.
So first team, but also youth sector to be implemented?
“I have always said it since the first day I took up this role within the neroarancio club. There’s no point in carrying out a Senior business if there isn’t a person behind it juvenile pelvis. It’s not just me saying it but it’s the history of basketball, of sport in general: we need a pool from which we can draw constantly and effectively. We cannot think of being able to always draw from outside and from other clubs for the first team. We have to start, I’m not saying by becoming totally autonomous from this point of view, because that would be a euphemism, but it would be fantastic to return to having a large number of athletes from Reggio and Calabria on the pitch, forged and trained by our youth sector. It is obvious that setting up a situation of this type is not a short-term job. There will be quite a few years to come, but this first requires a well-structured organization of the team and the technical and managerial staff”
Regulations, championship reforms and news year after year. A comment?
“Continuous changes don’t shock me too much because unfortunately the Federation proposes them every year. He can’t stabilize and it is a problem that also throws the planning of companies into disarray. In favor of eliminating Play-In-Silver. We will have 34 days: a more intense championship with midweek matches. A championship that promises to be very long. The objective is to structure a team that can withstand the impact of a demanding championship and because various pitfalls may arise along the way.”
A comment on the first purchase?
“Joseph Paulinus is a signing that Coach Cadeo and I have examined carefully but not only in a superficial way, viewing the highlights. We are interested in two-dimensionality offensive And defensive of a boy enthusiastic about integrating into a structured project where there will be no leaders but they will all be “leaders”. We are talking about a very physical athlete who comes out of the Tortona training school with a lot of ambition. We are focusing a lot on him but not just for next season: we hope to be able to make him a point of reference for the future Viola Reggio Calabria.”
What will Myenergy be? All-round defense and counterattacks?
“The prerogative must be there defence. We must build a team that will have its “must” in its defensive attitude but, at the same time, we need to have a young, athletic team capable of entertaining the public. People ask us for this. We will try to amplify the fact that the Viola will have to be a meeting point and sporting and social inclusion for everyone. At the moment, there are “very high costs” on the basketball market. We are in no hurry or frenzy to accommodate requests that are sometimes too high, we will not make crazy expenses. We try to balance our budget towards our planning. Joseph Paulinus will not be the only challenge: we will have several in the new group that we are going to build. On the other hand, we have decided and chosen as a company focusing on a Coach with proven experience who will be supported by a high-level team. It would be trivial to take five strong players and say they have concluded the transfer market. We work piece by piece to find the right joints. Alongside the Coach, I confirm that the Assistant Coach from last season, Seby d’Agostino from Reggio, will be present and obviously, the work of our Minibasket manager Giuseppe Calabrese will continue. In the next few days we will announce an important news for youth activity capable of broadening the base and organizing a high-level staff”.
At this moment, three types of paths seem to be emerging: those who have already built themselves to try to win, those who have patience to try to build the right team and those who are still working on closing the previous season. And you?
“We let’s look at ourselves. We don’t look at our opponents, we think about our goal. We have clear objectives at senior level and at youth level. Even if we had had an “unlimited” budget, we wouldn’t have staged spectacular shots. Let’s move forward with our feet on the ground, on all fronts, choosing the right men and players for our project.”
