A 38-year-old Ukrainian citizen was stopped by Bologna Flying Squad on charges of killing a 40-year-old compatriot. The murder took place on Saturday 15 June inside the victim’s home in via Ferrarese. The man, already known to the police for previous ones criminal cases, was identified thanks to a series of clues collected by investigators.

The victim, Roman Matvieiev, erta was found falls to the ground, unconsciouson the first floor of number 125 via Ferrarese, with a deep head wound. Immediately rescued, he was transported to the Maggiore hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery for a trauma to his belly, which required the removal of his spleen, and a skull fracture. Despite medical efforts, Roman passed away late yesterday morning. The body was discovered by a 52-year-old friend of the victim, who did not live with him but in his cellar in the basement. The man, having had no news from Roman, went up to the first floor and found his friend in serious condition.

The agents of the Flying Squad intervened on site, coordinated by the prosecutor Michele Martorelli, and the specialists of the Scientific Police. The investigations led to arrest of the 38 year old compatriot, traced in the Pilastro area on board a vehicle. The man, already with a police record, would have acted for passionate reasons. These elements led the Public Prosecutor to issue an arrest warrant for murder against the Ukrainian citizen: he was taken to the police station and subjected to a search, he was then interrogated and taken to prison. The story deeply shocked the residents of the neighborhood and brought to light disturbing details about the lives of the two people involved.

An elderly resident on the mezzanine floor, right below the victim’s apartment, said: “We often heard screams coming from his house. We also saw him stagger home several times. Yesterday I heard an argument, if I remember correctly it was late afternoon“. The woman added that she and other neighbors had repeatedly complained about the deteriorating conditions of the cellar where the victim’s friend lived, without obtaining results from the condominium administrator. Another neighbor instead said: “I saw the ambulance’s flashing lights reflected on the window glass, last night around 9pm. When the door was opened, I saw Roman on the ground. He had lived here for 3 or 4 years, before him his mother lived here. We often heard him scream.”
