The arrests of members of the municipal administration of Caserta, as well as the investigations into other leading members of the council and the technical office, have triggered various reactions. The political group “Caserta Decide” also intervened on the issue: “The news of these hours casts serious shadows on the municipal administration and regardless of the outcome of the judiciary’s investigations, the political data is immediately very clear. The combination of the investigations and the numerous political disasters raises serious doubts about the continuation of this administrative experience. The continuous deficiencies in the social services sector, the lack of involvement of citizens in decisions, the failure to approve the PUC, the hypertrophy of public works to the detriment of everything else, the absence of a fair and green vision of the city are not canceled by the action of the judiciary. This administration betrayed the ballot vote. Those who expected a transparent administration, capable of building a progressive city as an alternative to the League, were largely disappointed.”

The group underlines: “This administration has created a head-on conflict with the forces in the city that work to create experiences of improving society. She has become an opponent of those who imagine a different, welcoming, sustainable city. We therefore ask to reset the council and the technical line of the administration to eliminate all doubts and all links with opaque worlds. It is necessary to build antibodies ad horas to prevent the capital city from being dissolved due to mafia infiltration. It would be everyone’s failure. We appeal, in particular, to the PD and the 5 Star Movement. We hope for a notable change of pace.”

Then it adds: “In light of these investigations and in anticipation of the vote on the Rendiconto budget, after the resignation of the 5 Star councillor, we ask the councilors of the Democratic Party for a clear signal of distancing themselves from what is happening. They abstain from voting on the budget at the next city council meeting on 18 and 19 June. Despite the disastrous administrative framework, the European elections in our city have highlighted that there is still a desire to fight the right and that there is a strong demand to create credible alternative societies. For this reason we will commit ourselves, in the next few hours, to listening to the progressive forces starting from the M5S and the Democratic Party: it is necessary now to convene a table to jointly address this complex historical phase and prepare for the upcoming local elections”.
