The alliance in the center left is over in view of the run-off for the election of the future mayor of Potenza
The deadline for defining the alliances in view of the ballot on June 23rd and 24th, which will determine the future mayor of Potenza, expired a little while ago, at 1pm.
While on the centre-right front the parties of the alliance are cohesive in their support for their candidate, Francesco Fanelli – net of the split vote which in the first round saw him ten percentage points below the preferences recorded in the seven lists supporting him – the the real expectation was the outcome of the agreement on the opposite side.
In fact, Vincenzo Telesca, another candidate running for the tricolor band of the Lucanian regional capital, had reached an agreement yesterday afternoon with the other two candidates for mayor of the centre-left area, namely Francesco Giuzio of “La Basilicata Possible” and Pierluigi Smaldone of “Potenza returns”, also supported by the 5 Star Movement.
From late yesterday evening and throughout today’s morning[gc1] the general agreement that seemed to have united the parties collapsed under the weight of new and divergent demands.
Telesca, in order to guarantee himself, in the event of victory in the second round, a majority in the council sufficient to be able to govern, would seem to have assured the two presumed allies of the departments in the composition of the future council. In response, the request for a formal alignment was received, a circumstance which however would have led to a different division of the seats following the assignment of the majority prize.
Therefore, no alliance in the centre-left, Telesca will run alone and we will have to wait to understand the decisions of Smaldone and Giuzio.
