Elections, alliance between Pd and M5S signed

CIVITAVECCHIA – «This morning the forces of the center-left and the 5 Star Movement signed a shrewd electoral political alliance».

This was announced by the centre-left mayoral candidate Marco Piendibene which announces what had been in the air for a few days, between contacts and rumors. Now there is the official entry of the Five Star Movement into the coalition in support of Piendibene in the race for the Pincio which is strengthening in view of the imminent ballot on 23 and 24 June.

«It is an important choice – continues Piendibene -, which establishes a pact that will allow two political cultures that at every level represent the alternative to the right to propose to Civitavecchia a platform for overcoming a very sad period which has seen Palazzo del Pincio humiliated by a bungled and impalpable management, made up of reshuffles and little else. Today we propose a pact of trust in Civitavecchia: we will build an inclusive, transparent city, a city of opportunities. Ours is a pact with the people of Civitavecchia for a change of historical paradigm: let’s combine the best forces with a spirit of service for the love of Civitavecchia, this is our challenge and we will win it.”

The mayoral candidate of M5S and UP, who remains behind, is satisfied Enzo D’Antò who explains: «Civitavecchia is going through an extremely difficult period in terms of employment, and the future looks even bleaker with the imminent closure of an economic reality that has supported the city for decades. We cannot ignore these problems which risk bringing many families to their knees. This is a critical time when we must come together and think about the good of our community. If politics had always acted with the aim of improving and growing its community, we would not be in this situation today. This is why we want to put the interests of the community before our own. Some say that this is how the 5 Star Movement is destined to end, but we believe that our city would have ended up differently.”

Indeed, for many, especially the purest, there is fear and some signs come from the drop in percentage points that the party has been suffering in recent years but for D’Antò it is a fundamental step for the city and he hopes for understanding from part of the citizens.

«If people – he says – will understand the meaning of our choices and the dedication we are putting into trying to save our city, then we will have achieved our goal. Too often we try to safeguard appearance at the expense of content. But we do politics for values, not for the box that contains them. At this crucial moment, we invite everyone to join us, to look beyond differences and work together for the future of Civitavecchia. Only with everyone’s commitment – he concludes – can we hope to revive our beloved city and guarantee a better tomorrow for our families and future generations”.

A little less satisfied Popular Civitavecchia which remains excluded from the comparison. «We had made ourselves available – they write in a note – to a formal alliance with the centre-left coalition. Unfortunately Civitavecchia Popolare has found the door closed to this possibility and will therefore not be present on the ballot paper for the run-off. Despite this, the political motivation that led us to this availability remains alive: the strong concern for the victory of Grasso’s coalition in the next elections. For this reason we have taken a step back and left our allies of the 5 Star Movement free to make their choice in relation to the possibility of making the alliance and the terms of the same” and conclude with an invitation to vote anti-fascist.
