Swimming stadium and fast electric bus (BRT) depot, the areas handed over to the Municipality of Taranto. New important step in the process that will lead to the construction of the Olympic swimming pools, which will be one of the most innovative infrastructures among those that will host the Mediterranean Games in 2026. But not only. A step forward also for the interchange car park designed for the Brt line (from the English Bus rapid transit).
In particular, the formalization of the delivery to the Municipality by the Navy with the presence of the State Property Agency of the land on which these two large works will be built took place late last Friday afternoon. The report which sanctioned the transfer of the areas was signed, at Palazzo di Città, by the officers of the Southern Maritime Command, captain of vessel Valter Russo, and of the direction of the Military Engineers for the Navy, captain of vessel, Teodoro Nicolazzo; by the engineer Massimo D’Andria, for the regional management of Puglia and Basilicata of the State Property; by the director of the Heritage, State Property and Housing Policies directorate of the Municipality of Taranto, Alessandro De Roma, and by the Heritage councilor, Marcello Murgia.
The land on which the BRT vehicle depot will be built is located between Acton and Enrico Millo streets, near «Maricentro» and near the local police headquarters; while the Swimming Stadium, which will include two 50-metre Olympic swimming pools, one indoor and the other outdoor, will be built in the area below the Ayala Tower, in Viale Virgilio, overlooking the Mar Grande.
The document signed last Friday allows the Municipality of Taranto to assume temporary ownership of the areas and thus start the procedures necessary for the implementation of two interventions which will have a positive impact both from the point of view of mobility and that of sports facilities.
