Ustad Noor Bakhsh, Pakistani master of the Benju, a mysterious oriental instrument, held an exciting concert in Perugia between folklore and spirituals. With his 78 years and the keyboard zither typical of Baluchistan, the musician was the protagonist of the new event of the Sacred Noise event at the Gardens of the Temple of Sant’Angelo in Corso Garibaldi. His European tour also made a stop in Perugia. His music evokes the well-documented migrations and navigations, the historic relationships with Africa, Persia and Arabia across the Indian Ocean world. Baluchi music, but also folk variations of Hindustani ragas, Farsi and Kurdish melodies and all the different languages of Pakistan, such as those in Pashto and Punjabi. Also with him were two players of the damboora, a long-necked two-stringed lute.
