ANCONA – Tourism grows in June in the Marche. According to a survey by Federalberghi, almost 20% of Italians (19.9%) waited for the end of school to take a holiday: 15.1 million will be travelling, the majority will remain in the Bel Paese (90.1%), while 8.2% will choose a foreign location.

The favorite destination remains the sea (57.3%), followed by the mountains (10.8%), cities of art (10.7%). According to the Federalberghi report, the average duration of the holiday will be around 15 days and the average expenditure per capita will be around 659 euros. As far as accommodation is concerned, 19.3% choose hotels, 16.4% go to their own home and 7.2% go to a B&B.

Among the most popular activities of the period were walks (68.4%), lunches and dinners at restaurants (45.0%) and happy hour (33.6%). The car is the means of transport chosen by 62.9% of holidaymakers, the plane by 21.6% and the train by 4.2%.

Confirming the growing trend of tourism in the Marche is Emiliano Pigliapocoregional councilor of Federalberghi Marche: «We are seeing many arrivals already this month – he explains –: on weekends the facilities are almost full, while during the week hotel occupancy is around 50%».

These are tourists “both Italian and foreign”, the latter arriving mainly from Germany, Belgium, Holland, and tourists from France are increasing, he explains. In short, “foreign tourism is also growing.” Compared to last year, the increase in tourism in the month of June in the Marche is estimated “around 10-15%” explains Pigliapoco.

There have also been some adjustments to prices in the summer of 2024, these are «price increases of around 20%, which in a weekend holiday in the low season lead to an increase of around 60-70 euros – he explains – while in high season they can cost up to 170 euros, but in any case the structures in the Marche are keeping prices low compared to other regions” he concludes.
