The inconvenience was caused by heavy truck traffic heading to the port. Scenes already experienced a few days ago – the angry residents report – and up until a few months ago. Scenes filmed from cell phones and posted online, reviving the age-old question about the circulation system to and from the port. The result yesterday was a traffic burden with the viaduct blocked for almost the entire early morning.

Of course, the opening of West Gate will be able to ease the heavy traffic in this area of the city. Meanwhile, the usual problems of vehicle weight remain which recur periodically. There were long queues that started at the roundabout which then leads up via Ligea and via Porto. In the chaos, many Salerno residents were forced to get off the buses to reach the city center on foot. Yesterday’s traffic jam once again highlighted the critical issues related to mobility on the Gatto viaduct, a crucial infrastructure for Salerno’s city and commercial traffic. Municipality and councilor for mobility, Rocco Galdi, they are called to find timely solutions to avoid the recurrence of similar inconveniences. From the traffic trap on the Gatto viaduct, with repercussions in the Canalone district and on via Benedetto Croce, to the discomfort experienced yesterday morning in Torrione. A succession of cars parked at the end of the descent on Via Della Monica, at the exit from the Sala Abbagnano ring road, caused traffic to be blocked or slowed down. Repercussions were also recorded on via Orofino, up to via Posidonia, where cars in double rows and vehicles loading and unloading goods after hours caused traffic to go haywire. A hellish Saturday where the need for stronger patrols by the municipal police was felt, unfortunately dealing with a chronic shortage of personnel. Yesterday there was no shortage of traffic jams, hours of slowed or blocked traffic and bursts of crazy horns from cars stopped on the road at walking pace.
Another constant problem is represented by the double row parking on Via Sciaraffia where there is also a very busy post office. The circuit around the local market in via Robertelli yesterday also systematically went into trouble at certain times of the day. Inconveniences also recorded in via del Pezzo, slowdowns in via Torrione and via Posidonia.
