Also a baseball bat and other blunt objects were found in the van of the three attackers who on Friday around 2pm ambushed a young man from Fano, in his thirties, in the car park of the Fano Center. A very violent argument resulted in the serious injury of a fourth man who was transported to the Torrette hospital in Ancona by air ambulance and is in a reserved prognosis. The man suffered a deep wound to his abdomen caused by a sharp object, from initial reconstructions it looks like a carpenter’s pencil, which was stuck in his belly.

The motive is still under investigation but, judging from the objects found in the work van in which the three were traveling and also from the recent purchase of that bat, for which proof of purchase was also found which dates back to shortly before, the three may have been there for a showdown. The eldest is sixty years old, of Italian origin and resident in the Fano area, and is said to be the partner of the second attacker’s mother. The third is an Algerian. The three would also be linked by working relationships in the construction sector. Apart from the first, who is sixty years old, the other two are in their 30-40s.

The argument from which the settling of accounts apparently originated was not contextual to the man’s wounding but dates back to a few days earlier. A traffic dispute, probably, during which insults were hurled at the partner of one of the three. And then, in the very early afternoon of Friday, they would meet in a place that was certainly not as secluded and away from prying eyes as the car park of a large shopping center at rush hour. The reason for the appointment was, in fact, the need for a “clarification” following the dispute.

The two security guards of the shopping center, alerted by a passer-by, provided first aid and separated the four men. One of the two security guards remained with the three attackers to wait for the police to arrive shortly afterwards. The other accompanied and supported the injured man to the pharmacy in the shopping center which is located about thirty meters away from the site of the attack. The pharmacy workers provided first aid until the ambulance arrived promptly. The police arrested the three men and also heard the testimony of those who witnessed the scene. The three are now under house arrest awaiting the validation hearing in court in Pesaro next Monday.
