A 47-year-old from the Lecce hinterland, already known to the police, was arrested come on carabinieri of the station Lecce Santa Rosa after showing up at the police station with a stolen bicycle. The man, believed to be responsible for a series of thefts of bikes and scooters, was using the two-wheeled vehicle which had been reported missing at the same command.
The investigations had already been started following an escalation of similar episodes and had led the military to identify the 47-year-old as the alleged perpetrator of several thefts of scooters and a bicycle. The investigators reconstructed four episodes of theft (one in a home) which occurred between February and May thanks to the images of the video surveillance systems and the technical investigations conducted.
Three episodes
Among the thefts attributed to the suspect there would be three separate incidents of theft of scooters, with estimated values of approximately 400, 600 and 350 euros respectively. In one of the cases, the man apparently broke the chain that secured the vehicle to a pole; in another, the scooter was allegedly taken near a commercial establishment; and finally, another would have been removed from inside a condominium building, where he would have sneaked in furtively.
Already subjected to the precautionary measure of the obligation to report to the judicial police, for similar crimes, the man apparently went to the police station using a bicycle worth around 500 euros, which had been reported stolen in that very barracks. The 47-year-old ended up in prison, in Borgo San Nicola, in compliance with a precautionary custody order issued by the investigating judge at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office. He is charged with aggravated theft and receiving stolen goods.
