On 13 June 2024, as part of the initiatives to combat the phenomenon of drug dealing promoted by the Reggio Calabria Police Headquarters, investigators from the Flying Squad, with the constant coordination of the Reggio Public Prosecutor’s Office, arrested a twenty-eight year old from the Catona district for the crime of possession of narcotic substances. In recent days, the man had become the protagonist of several fleeting and repeated encounters with people who went to his home; among these, also subjects known to be close to criminal contexts.
The officers deployed daily in the area had noticed the strange behavior of the young man, who was entirely similar to that usually documented in drug dealing environments. The police, therefore, decided to follow his movements more carefully until the morning of June 13th when they blocked him inside a warehouse in the Concessa hamlet where he had gone with a certain continuity. Inside the farmhouse, following the search carried out with the important contribution of the canine units of the General Prevention Office, several batches of drugs, cocaine, hashish and marijuana were found and seized, with everything needed for weighing and the packaging of the substance perfectly set up like a small artisan laboratory where the narcotic (about 20 kg of marijuana, 4.5 kg of hashish and 1.7 kg of cocaine) was divided and packaged before being placed on the market. The man, without prejudice to the general principle of not guilty until a final sentence, was arrested and made available to the Judicial Authority which ordered his transfer to prison.
