The Dallas Mavericks were able to avoid elimination in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Friday, and they did so with style and energy, as the Boston Celtics suffered their worst loss of the season at the American Airlines Center. TO Kyrie Irving was asked what he thought about the Mavericks’ chances of coming back from a 3-0 deficit.
“We have no choice now but to look forward. To make history. That’s what the nature of this business is. You win a small amount of games, a small sample size. But I think what you saw today at the beginning of the game was our very high energy, a very balanced unit, very relaxed and on track defensively. And we also heard some trash talk (from our opponents) which we needed in this series just to get us going our guys. Not everyone is going to be just laid back competitors here. We need some of our guys that are coming in to help me and Luka to be able to bring that energy and bring the strength.”
Irving has some experience overcoming big deficits and making history. Kyrie was part of the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers team that overcame a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals to win that championship. Irving was a crucial part of that series and may need to replicate those performances to help the Mavericks put their name on the 2023-24 honor roll.
