He was locked up and detained after his final sentence of 18 years for the murder of his ex-wife Renata Rapposelli, a Theatinian who had moved to Ancona; his son Simone, also convicted and detained, was said to have acted with him. The crime occurred on 9 October 2017 in Giulianova. The body was found three months later in the countryside of Tolentino, in the Macerata area. Giuseppe Santoleri was sentenced in the first instance to 24 years in prison, a sentence later reduced to 18 years in the second instance. According to the judges, the perpetrator of the painter’s crime was her son Simone, sentenced to 27 years in prison.
